Conflict occurs when two or more individuals perceive a situation differently and at least one person’s perception is that he or she has been negatively affected. In fact, conflict can occur at any time, in any situation, and often at the worst possible time. When a group or team is working toward a goal and conflict erupts, the process can come to a halt until the conflict is resolved. For the following questions, take into consideration a conflict that you have experienced in your workplace:

  • What role do differing behavioral styles play in a conflict?
  • Discuss the 5 methods of conflict resolution discussed by DuBrin.
  • What are the pros and cons of each of the following (DuBrin, 2001)?
    • Confront the issue directly.
    • Receive criticism objectively and dispassionately while seeking clarification.
    • Recognize all parties' points of view.
    • Mentally convert negative aspects to positive ones.
    • Negotiate and bargain

ANSWER

The various types of actions will give a fresh viewpoint. Making a business decision is not wise without considering the negative, and only the affirmative.

Directly addressing the issue: Just make sure it's done politely, so each team member will genuinely believe in their own opinion and accept it as truth and solution. It is wise, within a group contact, to consider each first as an opinion, rather than as fact. Gage the responses of each member of the team and their personality according to the question. Often add your own suggestion / comment both positive and negative.

Criticism: It is a must. Clarification of a problem is crucial in a team environment, which helps the team to arrive at an acceptable solution. Negative / anti-thesis is criticism. Criticism allows you to test your own theory, which is the very Scientific Method concept. Only then does the team come up with the best-fit solution.

Recognize all points of view: Not everyone agrees with you and that's not just good, but important. If everybody agrees with you, then your own theory is not tested, which very often could well be incorrect. At least in industry, it is important to bring ideas to the test, instead of defecting to an untested, informed guess.

Conversion: In this sense, the word "bad" may not apply to some ill-will or contempt, as this is company. The word "negative" applies to any view that could contradict your own argument, which involves evaluating the negative as well as the positive, and then drawing a inference. The shift occurs as the listener addresses their peers' ideas properly, rather than overlooking or not listening, which is the foundation of arguing, rather than fixing problems.

Negotiate and Bargain: The best-fit option would be 'best-fit.' Every organisation's management flexibility is flawless. By checking all of the hypotheses of all constituents, however, that would allow some recommendations to be taken and some left out. Question: What was the positive reason I should apply to my own theory in his / her case? How should I omit from my own claim, in view of a better choice offered during the meeting? In other words, you give and take away in team dynamics to be a team leader, who has the goal of organisation development rather than self.
