What did you learn from reading about memory processes that can offer practical suggestions for improving your study skills? Be sure that you identify at least 4 specific suggestions.
Memory is our ability to encode ,store, retain and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain.
Study skills are a range of skills which tackle the process of taking in new informations, organizing and retaining them ,dealing and utilising them when needed.
Memory and learning are so closely connected. Memory is essential to all learning because it helps one to retreive the information that one learn.
The practical suggestions for improving study skills include
1. Effective reading.
2. Memorization.
3.Eficient note taking.
4. concentration techniques.
5.testing what we have learned.
6.Time management.
7.Focusing our attention.
8.Utilize mnemonic devices
9. Using visual concepts

4.specefic suggestions for improving our memory
1. Utilize mnemonic devices.
Mnemonic devices are techniques often used by students to aid in recall. It is a simple way to remember information. We can associate first letters or the words we have to study ,to form a new word or sentence. It is apositive imagery. It can be a word ,a rhyme, song joke etc to help ,remember a specefic segment of information.

2. Visual concepts.
We can benefit greately from visualizing the information we study.Pay attention to photograhs ,charts, other graphics in the study material. We can also draw our own visual cues in the form of chart or figures ,use highlights, or pens in different colours to group related ideas in your written study materials.Even just making flash cards of various terms you need to remember can help to stengthen the information in your mind.
3. Elaborate and Rehearse.
In order to recall information ,you need to encode what you are studying in to long term memory. One of the most effective encoding techniques is known as elaborative rehearsal. An example of this technique would be to read the defenition of the key term, then study the defenition of the key term ,then read a more detailed description of what the term means. After repeating thethis process a few times , you will probably notice that recalling the information is much easier.
4, Relate new information to things you already know
When you are studying unfamiliar concepts or material, take some time, think about how this information relates to what you already know . By establishing relationships between new ideas and previously existing memories you can dramatically increase the likelihood of recalling the recently learned information.
