discuss LADAR based automatic target recognition.

Solutions

Expert Solution

LADAR is actually a laser RADAR and it gives range and intensity for outputs.

All the 3 dimensional background and coordinates of an object is provides by the range based images and Intensity basically gives or measures the reflectivity of the object.

The LADAR system can be broadly classified into

1) Direct detection ladar : In direct-detection ladar sytem pulses with certain time period is send out a simple to recieve the image of the pixel, and the returning signal is detected. Ranges are measured using sending the repeated pulse, and measuring the distance in range.

Direct-detection ladars are less susceptible distortion of the signal. This is the reason we prefer Direct detection ladar more.

2) Coherent ladar : The data or signal is send using a carrier frequency in case of Coherent detector. Coherent Detection system can measure target motion using Doppler processing.

Ladars are day/night sensors that operate well in a wide variety of weather conditions. They can be used in many applications , military is one these application.
