The Joint Commission is an independent and not-for-Profit organization which operated in the United States and is responsible for providing accreditation to healthcare institutions and the programs run by them. It has its headquarters in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois and it also has an international branch which provides accreditation services to medical institutions worldwide. It was formerly called the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

The Joint Commission accreditation can be applied to and granted to numerous types of healthcare institutes such as hospitals, nursing homes, office-based surgery centres, doctors office, behavioural health facilities, and providers of home care services.he cost of getting the accreditation is $46,000 for a full survey plus the cost incurred by the surveyors.The main importance of Joint Commission accreditation is that it is required for receiving Medicaid and Medical Reimbursement in the US. Also, the seal instils a sense of quality and good services being provided by the healthcare institutions who bear its seal thereby attracting more number of patients.
