In during the session of psychotherapy, a patient is encouraged to talk about their feelings and mental condition. This therapy focuses on knowing the suppressed thoughts, feelings and desire a person is carrying. This therapy can help a patient to recognize the issue that is causing the depression and tries to remove that issue through proper consultations.

The medications prescribed to control depression are considered Anti-depressants. There are different kinds of antidepressants that are commonly used in treating depression such as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) that works by restoring the level of Serotonin in a person’s body. Citalopram, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Escitalopram belong to the category of SSRI. Apart from this, there are other medicines that a psychiatrist also prescribes after assessing the present mental state of a patient. These medicines are Mirtazapine, Wellbutrin XL, Aplenzin and Nefazodone.
Electroconvulsive Therapy: Electroconvulsive Therapy is applied to a patient when the patient doesn’t respond to the above treatment procedures such as therapies and medications. When the level of depression is higher than normal this therapeutic approach is applied. This involves supplying electrical currents in the brain of a patient so that it could impact the chemicals in the patient’s brain and reduce the level of depression by making neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine working again.
