Have you, or any family or friends, had any experiences with prescription depressants such as valium, oxycontin, benzodiazepine, vicodin, xanax, etc? If so, and you would like to share, please describe the experience. Do you know anyone who has had any experience "Dr. Shopping." If so, describe the process. By most measures, prescription drug abuse is a greater health issue than illicit drug use. That being said, why are we, as a culture, so obsessed with so-called 'street' drugs while we more or less ignore the prescription drug problem? Why has Florida, particularly Broward County, been the heart of 'Script Mills' and 'Dr. Shopping'? What is being done to combat this problem in Florida?
I had a friend who use to use valium to reduce anxiety and alcohol withdrawal symptoms for sometime. But when it came to stopping its use,it became hard because somehow he had become addicted. This is the problem with prescription drug, you start using them to end a problem but they become the problem themselves in the end. The world of today has become so complex that understanding somethings has just become impossible. Attention has been on the issue of drug abuse but less attention has been given to prescription drugs yet it affects many people today and their consequences are even worse than drugs such as alcohol and heroin.
The case of Florida and specifically the Broward County has become the heart of prescription drugs normally known as Script Mills because of laxity in law enforcement and lack of good will from the relevant authorities to bring the issue to an end.At the moment, local communities and government departments concerned with the issue are trying to come up with programs to reduce the menace.
