A project manager is a person who has the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project.

Construction, petrochemical, architecture, information technology and many different industries that produce products and services use this job title.A project manager is a person who is responsible for making decisions, both large and small.

The project manager should make sure they control risk and minimise uncertainty. Every decision the project manager makes must directly benefit their project.

Good project managers are people with an excellent entrepreneurial mindset. This allows them to think about a project beyond the basic skill set needed to manage it, it is the project manager’s job to direct teams and team members to the finish line. At the end of the day, the project’s success or failure rests solely on the project manager’s shoulders, and he or she is the one responsible for the end result.

Project managers keep knowledge and information flowing seamlessly. They need both technical know-how and first-hand knowledge of the tasks they assign to others to keep the project moving forward.

Responsibilities of Project Manager:

1. Cost estimation and developing the budget

2. Time management

3. Activity and resource planning

4. Organizing and motivating a project team

5. Analyzing and managing project risk

Phases of the project :

There are 4 main phases. They are:

1. Initiation and planning: business case study, checking feasibility, system designing, architechture

2. Execution: this is the development phase

3. Monitoring and control : testing and quality control

4. Closure : the closing and completeness of project is communicated to the stakeholders
