why are spermatozoa created by meiosis and not by mitosis?
Answer and explanation-
The spermatozoa or the Sperms are the male sex gamete that fertilises the female gamete to form zygote wich develops into a baby.
The formation of spermatozoa undergo series of division and maturation to reach at this stage , this process is called spermatogenesis.
The spermatozoa are haploid cells because they are result of Meiotic division
In the seminiferous tubules the germ cells called spermatogonia which are 2n that is diploid first increase their number by mitotic division and forms 1°/primary spermatocyte then undergo first Meiotic division to form haploid cells called 2°/secondary spermatocyte.
These secondary spermatocyte undergo second Meiotic division to form spermatids.which develop and mature to form a spermatozoa or sperm
Meiotic division is required to form a haploid a haploid cell because in only meiosis the chromosome do not seperate from the knitochore rather the homologous chromosomes are separated after crossing over to form half the number of chromosomes than the parent cells.which is crucial for the fertilisation to result in diploid zygote.
