There are three different types of ADHD, depending on which
symptoms are strongest in the individual:
- Predominantly Inattentive: Typically, individuals face
difficulty in organising or completing tasks, paying attention to
minor details or following instructions or conversations.
Individuals falling under this subtype are easily distracted or
forget details of daily routines.
- Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive: Predominantly
hyperactive-inattentive individuals are fidgety and talk
incessantly. They experience restlessness and have difficulty
sitting still for longer periods. In case of children, they may
run, jump or climb constantly. Individuals may also struggle with
impulsivity. Impulsive behaviours involve interrupting others
frequently, grabbing things from them, or speaking at inappropriate
times. Highly impulsive individuals find it hard to wait their turn
or listen to directions. Such individuals are prone to having more
accidents and injuries than others.
- Combined Presentation: Symptoms of the above two types are
equally present in the person.
