Solutions

Expert Solution

a. Al3+ (aq) + NaOH (aq, 1M) Al(OH)3 (s) + Na+(aq, 1 M)

If you add an additional amount of 6 M NaOH then the equilibrium shifts towards right side, i.e. towards Al(OH)3.

b. Al3+ (aq) + NaOH (aq, 1M) Al(OH)3 (s) + Na+(aq, 1 M)

If you add an additional amount of 15 M ammonia, then NH3 binds to Al3+ to form the soluble complex, i.e [Al(NH3)6]3+ (aq).

c. Al3+ (aq) + NaOH (aq, 1M) Al(OH)3 (s) + Na+(aq, 1M)

If you add an additional amount of 6 M HNO3 then the soluble Al(NO3)3 (aq) forms.

d. Al3+ (aq) + NH3 (aq, 1M) [Al(NH3)6]3+ (aq)

If you add an additional 6 M NaOH then the formation of Al(OH)3 (s) and NH3 (l) takes place.

e. Al3+ (aq) + NH3 (aq, 1M) [Al(NH3)6]3+ (aq)

If you add an additional amount of 15 M Ammonia then the above reaction won't disturb.

f. Al3+ (aq) + NH3 (aq, 1M) [Al(NH3)6]3+ (aq)

If you add additional amount of 6M HNO3 then the formation of Al(NO3)3 (aq) takes place along with NH3 (l).
