A. Please balance this redox reaction occurring in acidic solution
Al(s) + Cu2+ ---> Al3+(aq) + Cu(s)
Balance This: H2S + IO3- + SO42- + I2
B. Please balance this redox reaction occuring in basic solution
Al(s) + MnO4-(aq) ---> MnO2(s) +Al(OH)4-(aq)
Balance This: I-(aq) + MnO4-(aq) ---> I2(s) + MnO2(s)
Please explain :)
Steps for balancing redox reaction in acidic medium are:-
1. Write the reduction and oxidation half separately.
2. Balance the central atom and their charge leaving O and H atoms.
3. Balance the oxygen atoms by addding the same amount of H2O on the deficient side.
4. Then balance the H atoms by adding the same amount of H+ on the deficient side.
5. Balance both the reduction and oxidation half by balancing the number of electrons.
6. Then add both the oxidation and reduction half together.
The balanced reaction is given below:
For the basic medium steps 1 and 2 are same.
3. For balancing O atoms we add same number of H2O on the same side of O atoms.
4. For H we add the same number of OH- ion on the H deficient side.
Steps 5 and 6 are same as acidic medium.
The balanced equation is given below:
