Ans = The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established in 2002 under the Department of Homeland Security Act and since its inception it has played a significant role in tackling illegal drugs associated crimes. Although marijuana has been legalized, yet cocaine remains to be an highly used psychedelic drug and on high demand as well. Most of the cocaine transit routes are through Mexico and Central America. While the supply source mainly lies in Colombia, Mexico,Peru, etc. While marijuana is mostly produced and shipped from Mexico.Florida, a popular beach destination is flooded with illicit drugs through the Puerto Rico transit rote. While El Paso, Texas, Arizona, San Diego, California are the entry routes for northern border.
While the capture and death of Pablo Escobar as well as other notorious drug lords can be credited to the DEA, it is upto the DoHS to to prevent drug related crimes inside the state. The drug trafficking organisation function in an organised network even in the US in several towns to big cities for their efficient distribution. The department is entrusted upon protecting America's borders. In this way there are extensive investigations in regular intervals for truck loads, underground tunnels used for drug trafficking, etc. The cross cartel fights for regional control has also been reduced to some extent inside the US with effort from the department.
