1. The upper part of the v*gina is innervated by what plexuses?
2. The region of the v*ginal orifice, the labia minora
and the cIitoris are innervated by what plexuses? These plexuses
are sensitive to what stimulus?
3. Enumerate the supporting structures for the upper,
middle and lower third of the v*gina
4. What is the collective term for the female external
genitalia? What structures are included?
1. The upper part of vãgina (upper two third) are innervated by inferior hypogastric and uterovaginal plexus. These are sympathetic segments of L1,L2 and parasympathetic segments S2 to S4.
2. The region of v*ginal orifice, labia minora and clitorís are innervated by pudencle nerve through the interior rectal and posterior labial branches of perineal nerve.
These structures have pain receptors in them and are sensitive to pain.
3. The support to vãgina is provided by the surrounding bones, muscles and ligaments.
Upper one third is supported by transverse cervical ligament of pelvic fascia
Middle one third is related to pubococcygeus part of levator ani.
Lower one third has a support of perineal membrane and bulb of vestibule. The hip bones also provide support.
4. The female external genitalia are collectively known as vulva.
it includes-
1. Mons pubis
2. Labia majora
3. Labia minora
4. Clitorīs
5. Vestibule of vàgina
6. Bulbs of vestibules
7. Greater vestibular glands
