Key factor's of Maxico's economy which is underperforming relative to the US economy are as follows:

Technology Industry : US is No. 1 in technology industry, most of the Giant tech companies are US based like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla etc. Maxico don't have many tech giants unlike US. Margin in tech companies are very good which help in developing the economy at very high pace.
Services Industry : Service Industry of US is also very huge compare to Maxico, one reason being as most of the tech giants are from US it has leant a biased of service industry towards US.
Defence Industry : US is one of the biggest defence exporter in the world. It has cutting edge technology to develop arms and ammunations which are generation ahead of others. In this context as well Maxico is lagging behind.
Finance and Insurance Industry : US has a huge finance and Isurance industry. NYSE and wall street are called financial hub of the world in this category as well Maxico is lagging behind.
