For each item, select "Absorptive" or "Post-absorptive" depending on which state is correct.
|
1 |
skeletal muscle builds glycogen------ Absorptive |
2 |
excess glucose is converted to triglycerides ------ Absorptive |
3 |
insulin promotes cellular uptake of glucose----- Postabsorptive |
4 |
only the brain uses glucose for energy ------- Postabsorptive |
5 |
body cells use amino acids to produce ATP ----- Postabsorptive |
6 |
liver cells perform gluconeogenesis ---- Postabsorptive |
7 |
glucagon triggers the liver to increase blood glucose levels ------- Postabsorptive |
8 |
body cells use glucose for oxidative phosphorylation ----- Absorptive |
Explanation: Absorptive state is the state just after the the meal consumption. This increases the plasma glucose level which stimulates the release of insulin. Insulin causes conversion of glucose into glycogen, utilization fo the glucose by the cells, glycolysis of the glucose.
Postabsoprtive state occurs 4-6 hours after the last meal consumption. It leads to decrease in blood glucose level. This stimulates the release of glucagon.
