ANS;- Peripheral nervous system consists of the nerves that arise from the brain and spinal cord. So simply we can say the nerve that arise from the brain and spinal cord will form the peripheral nervous system. The nerves are of two types;-
1. CRANIAL NERVES;- The nerves that arise from the brains are called as the cranial nerves. There are 12 pairs of the cranial nerves present in the human body. The are basically present in the head region. They may be sensory, motor or mixed nerves.
2. SPINAL NERVE;- These are thosenerve that arise from the spinal cord. Thet are present in the whole body except the head region. There are 31 pairs of the spinal nerve. They are basically mixed nerves.
So nerves that carry information to and from the visceral organs are called as the visceral nerves.
FUNCTION OF PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM;-
1, It s primary function is to connects the different organs with the brain or CNS.
2. It is responsible for the carrying of the information to and from the CNS.
3. It is responsible for the transmission of the sensory information as well as for voluntary movement.
Peripheral nervous system is also divided into the
1. Voluntary peripheral nervosu system .
2. Involuntary peripheral nervous system. It is also called as the autonomic nervous system.
