Heart disease is top reason for death between citizens in USA and more modern countries. Fast food is main cause of unhealthful fats that cause drastically to heart disease. Think you're a judge lying on a test where a fast-food company is being charged for making a dangerous product. To what point do you believe manufacturers of harmful foods must be taken responsible for health effects of their products? As a jury member, how would you elect?

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are few points which we can consider

1. If the level of fat in the fast foods are more than the level approved by FDA?

2. It is clearly consumer choice to eat what they want. So as a manufacturer fast food companies are bound to fulfill there customer demand. Although as this affects a larger chunk of population we as a jury member can ask the manufacturer to label the fat percent in the packaging along with advisory in big bold letters as "consumption of these foods leads to heart disease".

3. As the matter is of great health concern court can ask the manufacturer to either remove the dangerous fat substances from their products or liable to bear the cost of health deterioration faced by their consumers.

For the second part of question we can form a committee with jury members from medical background ( prferably a cardiologist), an FDA person, manufacturer representative, a public group representative such as from NGO will be appointed. They could submit a report based upon the cases of heart disease caused by fast food consumption and then the court will pass the judgement with the help of these jury members.
