PepsiCo is one of the world's largest food and beverage company, with 2007 annual revenues of more than $39 billion. The Company employs approximately 185,000 people worldwide, and its products are sold in approximately 200 countries. Its principal businesses include: Frito-Lay snacks, Pepsi-Cola beverages, Gatorade sports drinks, Tropicana juices and Quaker foods. The PepsiCo portfolio includes 17 brands that generate $1 billion or more each in annual retail sales.
Over the years, PepsiCo has been working really hard for women empowerment and breaking the glass ceiling for women in the organization.
Women Initiatives
• Diversity & Inclusion initiative
• PepsiCo India targets individuals with a specific employee behaviour or attitude that does not conform to established norms and standards such as unique personality and style, people with disability, age, ethnicity, gender etc. Besides attracting people from diverse backgrounds or mindsets, the company ensures that it creates a work environment and climate which encourages employees to be more involved, addresses individual needs and provides equal access to opportunities and information.
• Strengthening its commitment of employing more women in the organistaion, PepsiCo India, over the last two years has increased the percentage of women on its payroll from 5% in 2006 to 20% in 2008, making it an employer of choice for women. Currently women account for 33% of the top management and 15% of the rest of the workforce at PepsiCo.
• Partners with Jobstreet & IndiWo to lead the initiative forward
• Full-time job opportunities are to be offered initially. Aimed at women who are looking for jobs that meet their needs at different stages of life; PepsiCo has tied-up with Jobstreet, a leading recruitment agency and IndiWo – women centric website by Network 18 for the initiative. Together, they have identified the various roles and opportunities that can be offered to women who had taken an early break in their career due to various reasons.
• Through this initiative PepsiCo India aims to provide job opportunities to women at different stages like those who have opted out of the regular talent reserve due to various reasons and wish to re-enter the corporate world. PepsiCo will not only offer these career-oriented women salaries that are at par with industry standards but will also undertake various workshops to help them adapt to their new role and balance their personal and professional lives.
• PepsiCo India will be advertising all full time diversity roles on Jobstreet & IndiWo, with the sites maintaining a special diversity page for the initiative. Taking a lead in this corporate movement, PepsiCo India is looking for possible partnership or tie-ups with other corporates giving special emphasis on the D&I agenda.
PepsiCo India is focused on strengthening female representation in its workforce, employing people from diverse backgrounds and those with physical disabilities. PepsiCo has already provided employment opportunities to individuals with Learning Disability, Orthopaedic disability, Visual Impairment and Women Orthopaedic disability. The company is trying to create a level playing field for HIV infected individuals as well by providing them equal job opportunities as any normal individual. Through the project Healing Touch, the company is also providing employment opportunities to the Ex-Servicemen of Indian Armed Forces to help them earn their own livelihood.
For its outstanding contribution in employing people with disability and varied background PepsiCo India was awarded the NCPEDP-Shell Helen Keller Award in 2007.
