Critique this persons response and thoughts on the importance of project managemnet.
Persons response ----- I personally think that a PM is a very difficult position to fill in larger projects, there is so much going on and so many different things that need to be coordinated that a skilled PM is the only person with the training to do it. To make everything flow smoothly a properly trained PM should obviously be trained in scheduling, blue prints codes and trained about different materials that are being used so that they understand what steps need to be taken to get the project completed and how long each of those steps should take. It also helps if the PM has a construction background such as being a contractor and actually doing the work or working closely with experienced PM's so that they can see how each stage of the project gets completed, what the steps are and how an experienced professional handles the obstacles of daily operations.
I believe that the PM role itself is challenging and needs to deal with the details of the project, recently the role has gone through transformations and PMs are actually getting involved in both business and technical aspects of a project for which proper training and development program is required. Larger projects should have PMs with more experience into handling such projects which will help them in managing the project effectively and yield results for the organization. Background may or may not matter in this context because a project manager is considered to have the required skills needed to manage a project. We see the agile methodology in which the role of a project manager is known as Scrum Master and the person needs to be technically involved in the project and I myself actually like this methodology because if a manager is not involved technically then it would be tough for him to evaluate employees based on performance management that the organization conducts. The managers should keep themselves enabled and updated in this aspect so that they actually can mange things that come their way.
