How is Raynauds disease related to the ANS
Raynaud's disease usually occurs when the small arterioles that serve the fingers, toes, ears, or nose go into spasm. There are two types
a) Raynaud's disease or primary Raynaud's.- this occurs without any underlying diseases.
b)Raynaud's phenomenon or secondary Raynaud's- this happens as apattern along with other diseases.
Usually primary Raynaud's are said to be a cause of autonomic nervous dysfunction.
Usually sympathetic nervous system acts during fight and flight mode.usually sympathetic system also reacts to cold temperatures as fight and flight mode.
Too much blood flowing through the blood vessels under the skin would radiate away vital body heat and so these outer vessels constrict and the blood is drawn inwards and thus redness is seen as blood flows back out after coming in from the cold. As cold is the main trigger of Raynaud's attacks, this is what happens in Raynaud's,and the blood vessels of the fingers and toes constrict too tightly.
Hope this helps you. Thank you ?
