1. What motives do people have for hacking? Why has hacking become so popular in re- cent years? Do you regard it as a crime? Explain your position.

There are a few factors that motivates people for hacking some of them are:

Financial Gains
Espionage
Fun,ideology or grudge
where people are attracted towards hacking, they think hacking can help them in their financial gains by hacking into someone's bank account, or attacking on the bank details of people and then blackmailing banks for money, or it can be or fun like getting health records of a celebrity, or phone number of a celebrity, can be for grudges where the attacker wants to take some revenge from the victim, so they chose the area of hacking because they see it as the easiest way to harm someone or for financial gains.

Hacking has become more popular in recent years with the mordernization of everything which includes banking, telecommunications, where everything is becoming digital, people are attracted towards digital environment which has its own disadvantages because becoming digitally available means all your privacy is under threat as all you data is accessible over internet be it your personal information or financial information which makes it more prone for cyber threats such as hacking, there are encryption technologies to save your information but hacker have code break for all the technologies, which is why in recent times the cyber attacks have increased by more than 100 times than before.

For me hacking is a crime when it is not done officially by any government agency which they do for national security, except that every type of hacking is a legal crime, as hackers break into one's privacy and finance, which they do not have right to do.
