Prepare a report on the heating systems available in your area for residential buildings. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each system and compare their initial and operating costs. What are the important factors in the selection of a heating system? Give some guidelines. Identify the conditions under which each heating system would be the best choice in your area.
There are many heating systems that are available for residential places as described below
1. Boilers
In this kind of heating systems, the water gets heated first. Then, the hot water flows through the entire home via a series of pipes. Then, the heat comes out through convectors or cast iron radiators.
The advantages of this kind of heating system are
a. This kind of system is very energy efficient.
b. As the working principle of the system is very simple, the system has a long lifespan.
c. The temperature variations are less as compared to the furnace heating system.
The disadvantages of this kind of heating system are
a. The system installation charge is high, thus, such system is expensive.
b. No cooling is available unlike furnace.
c. It does not have any cleaning facility.
2. Furnaces
In furnace, hot air is forced to flow across residential place. The ambient air is heated up by the furnace, then, it is pushed inside the room with the help of blowers. When, the air gets cooled, it comes to the furnace through different channels.
The advantages of this kind of heating system are
a. The cost is less as compared to the boiler system.
b. It also has long lifespan.
c. The furnace system is very energy efficient.
d. It also generates cooling facilities.
e. It also has air quality checker.
The major disadvantages of this kind of heating system are
a. When the system works, it generates noise as several motors are running inside the system.
3. Heat pumps
Heat pump technology is very simple. It collects heat from the atmosphere and transfers those through a refrigerant system based on the principle of evaporation and condensation. There exist two types of heat pumps, such as air-source heat pumps and geothermal heat pumps.
The advantages of this kind of heating system are
a. They are very energy efficient
b. They have both the feasibility of cooling and heating.
c. They also support hybrid heating.
The disadvantages are
a. This kind of system is very expensive
b. If the outside temperature is very cold, this system might not work properly.
From the above discussion, we should take a note while choosing a heating system.
a. The system should be cheap.
b. It should have both the cooler and heater. Based on the requirement, it can perform either cooling or heating.
c. The installation cost should be as low as possible.
d. The system should have a long lifespan.
e. If it is an air-controlled system, then, it should have an air-quality checker.
Based on all the above discussion, the user can choose any of the heating system as per his/her requirement.
