Do you find any of the Victorians significantly different in themes and concerns from the Romantics, or is all this categorizing by era not working for you?
Both Victorians and Romantics were different in many aspects .Victoria period was under the reign of queen victoria. It was preceded by Romanticism. The main difference in the literature was that in the romanticism period poetry was leading the way whereas in the Victorian era novels led the way .Similarly the themes in the romanticism period were related to nature in more adored manner whereas in the victorian era nature was treated in a more realistic perspective and not in an idealistic way . In romantic poetry nature was considered as a source of admiration and happiness. It conveyed the idea of peace .Inspiration was drawn from nature at that time .There were other themes also which were present in it like Hellenism, Supernaturalism , Pastoral life etc . On the other hand nature was seen as more realistic in victorianism . Reclamation of past events was done in Victorian literature. Poetry was more focused on the brave and courageous knights . Idylls of the king by Alfred Tennyson's is one of the literature pieces based on it.In the victorian period sensory elements were also used extensively . Nature , romance , science and religion were portrayed with the help of these imagery and sensory approaches .These are some significant differences I have found .
