Explain the damage caused by the changes in the bronchi & bronchioles with chronic asthma.

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • The airways include trachea, bronchi and brochioles , which is surrounded by smooth muscle.
  • Airways are lined by mucus membrane , which secrete mucus or fluid which washes out the bacteria from the airway that might get into the lungs.overreaction or hyper-responsiveness leads to bronchospasm, which is excessive contraction of bronchial smooth muscle.
  • The airway also become inflammed and swelling of the bronchial mucous membrane and secretion of excessive thick mucus that is difficult to expel.
  • Obstruction of airway leads to decreased air flow, which is felt as tightness in the chest and labored breathing which is called dyspnea.
  • Obstruction and inflammation cause coughing.Due to increased mucus ,there will be increased cough as body always attempt to expel the mucus.
  • Narrowing of airway causes noises when air is passed through them with sufficient speed, which is typically high pitched voice called wheezing.
  • Mucus in the airway also cause a rough rattling sound called coarse crackle.
