Expert Solution

First of all , Let's understand what is resonance in terms of Seismology.

All the man made structures have some frequency means the number of time they vibrate back and forth when disturbed. Ground ( earth) also has its own resonance. The hard, solid ground has more resonance than softer ground. However, the building made on firm base have strong chance to resist damage. This is the reason engineers always check for underground water when laying foundation of any structure.

Now, the main reason earthequakes incur damage is because of large horizontal acceleration. When the natural frequency of ground matches somewhat with the frequency of buildings and other structures , we feel little shocks of earthquakes.

However, when the frequency matches exactly and buildings are in complete resonance with the earth, very large oscillations occur with maximum energy transfer between ground and building. A large, unavoidable destruction of life and property will occur as a result.

The only way to avoid this is to make our structures more stronger and sturdy to eradicate as much vibrations as possible , main focus should be to avoid horizontal disturbances.

Hypothesis 1: Mercury in thimerosal caused neurological damage in children, and is at least partly responsible for the increase in autism diagnoses. Hypothesis 2: The rate of autism incidence is not increasing, only the rate of autism diagnoses, as greater awareness of the syndrome and increased screening of children yields more positive diagnoses of autism. based on both hypothesis.. Do both hypotheses make testable predictions? How could you test them? please explain

By studying seismic measurements and geological evidence, scientists have made the following obser vations about earthquakes. i. Small tremors (magnitude below 1.0 on the Richter scale) are almost constantly oc curing on every continent. ii. The number of earthquakes with magnitude at least 3.0 on the Richter scale averages 200,000 per year, worldwide. iii. Based on geological evidence, the number of major earthquakes (magnitude> 7.0 on the Richter scale) has averaged 20 per year, and this average rate has not...

1. Do you believe that any future liability caused from fracking (e.g., from earthquakes) should be treated as a civil liability or criminal liability? In other words, is the payment of compensation limited by contractual agreement or by statute sufficient to compensate for any future life or property loss? Or do you think additional punitive measures including fines and potential imprisonment for responsible corporate personnel is merited? Explain. 2.
