1. EXPLAIN How nebulizer and inhaler assist in early detection of asthma symptom changes in children and teenagers?

2. Describe How NEBULIZER AND INHALER assist in THE disease management education OF ASTHMA?

Solutions

Expert Solution

2 Nebulizers or inhalers are very quick & very effective treatment strategy for asthma patients as the directtly delivers the properly measured drug directly into the lungs & that too in a mist form which is easily absorbed ,on the other hand if an oral drug is used it will take atleast 30 minutes to show its effect & its efficacy will be reduced due to first pass metabolism in stomach.

They are hand held & very convenient to use after a proper guidance of the professional

Inhaler & nebulizers competency is an integral component of effective self-management in asthma and COPD, and nurses play a pivotal role in delivering education to the patient and caregiver that is required to optimize disease control. Nurses are a primary point of contact for patients with asthma or COPD, and so are also in a key position to elicit patients' views on treatments and to encourage treatment adherence. With respect to technique, it is essential that nurses

  1. Know it—understand how each device works and learn the techniques required to achieve optimal delivery to the lungs

  2. Show it—effectively demonstrate to patients how the devices work

  3. Teach it—teach the correct technique to patients

  4. Review it—regularly assess technique using inhaler competency criteria, correcting bad habits as required.
