Political Science - In California, our state legislators are term-limited to a total of 12 years in the state Assembly and/or state Senate. No such limits apply at the federal level (congress). Members of congress can serve as long as they win reelection. Briefly describe in your opinion, whether or not you think term limits are a good idea and explain why.

Solutions

Expert Solution

In my opinion term limits are good option.

There are following pros of term limit

1. Term limit helps in active representation of members

2. As we know new addition in any organization brings in fresh ideas therefore It also helps in getting new ideas in the Congress.

3. In case of continued term chances of corruption increase therefore in my opinion term limit also put hold on corruption.

4. Members will be more engaged in long term requirements of the country rather than focusing on short term political benefit or situation

5. There are high chances that experienced member will have political pressure on new joiners but in case of term limit this could be avoided.

However there are few cons also

1. Experience will not get any reward, as with term limit it will be punished.

2. May loose really good members due to term limit.

3. The cohesion will be less among members as the members will keep changing therefore it may impact familiarity among members.
