Discuss the different stages of a mid-latitude cyclonic storm from birth to decay according to the polar front model.

  • How does the magnitude of the sea level pressure change with time?
  • How does the associated frontal structure change with time?
  • Why do they tend to die out after they become occluded?

Solutions

Expert Solution

DIFFFERENT STAGES OF MID LATITUDE CYCLONIC STORM:-(FROM BIRTH TO DECAY)

1.STATIONARY FRONT:-refers to narrow boundary that initially formed between air masses with varying densities

stationary front refers to no air masses underwent substantial movement (mentioned to understand what is warm and cold front)..

2.CYCLOGENESIS:- Initial stage of cyclones life cycle...thus occurs wgen warm and cold fronts slides against each other..generating spinning motion of cyclone

3.MATURE STAGE:- refers to wave formed during initial stage grows as warm air present there replaces space left behind cold front..

4.OCCLUDED STAGE:- refers when denser cold front combines with warm front which forms occluded front which a wave transforms into a loop..

5.DISSOLVING STAGE:- this is the final stage of cyclone ...which refers when this cuts off the supply warm moist air and therefore a lifting cause occurs by interaction between cold and warm fronts...this loss resukts the cyclone to dissolve..

***HOW DOES THE MAGNITUDE OF SEA LEVEL PRESSURE CHANGE WITH TIME?

ANS:-according to a study the sea levels magnitude increases with time (per year)

reason for this is rise in thermal expansion, increased melting of ice..

***HOW DOES THE FRONTAL STRUCTURE CHANGE WITH TIME?

ANS:-It changes with association of rotation of loops on x axis increases with north and station having 3100

   time----->

***WHY DO THEY TEND TO DIE OUT AFTER THEY BECOME OCCULDED?

ANS:-Well,after a cyclone becomes occluded(comes to fina stage) beacause its warm air sector no longer touches the core of the storm and therefore cannot supply energy to storm ..therefore it dies over there..
