Measurement of daily operations at College: In order to have proper visibility and data supporting the visibility, then the right approach is to have the appropriate measurement of all the key processes of the college. The measurement on each college process will help to understand the process in detail, the causes for process variation and the analysis required to understand the variation in the process and according we will initiate improvement action so that we can avoid the process variation and finally we will be glad to have improved process at the college. Thus measurement will help to improve the process at the college for its daily operations.

Six Sigma Approach: Six sigma approaches can be applied in such cases where improvement is desired in the process. The six sigma process i.e. DMAIC option is a process improvement option, can be applied in the process for improvement. It has five stages as define, measure, analysis, improve and control. Thus the measurement and analysis technique is a part of six sigma DMAIC process.

Learning Measurement at College: Let take an example for learning measurement at the college. Let us define the learning process at college. The learning process scan be define in terms of teaching topics per period.

Define: How many subject topics are tough in the class per period. The data may come like, 1, 2 or 3 topics per period per class.

Measurement: In order to improve this process, we can use the measurement process for a period of one month. We will measure the number of topics teach in each period for all the classes of the college. One of the employees is made responsible and all the professors are required to update their topic quantity in the common database.

Analysis: Now, we have measured data for the period of one month on the given subject. Now we can review and analyze the data for the subject and find out the reasons for fluctuation of the subject. We have found some of the issues with professors, students availability, student queries, lack of professor preparation etc.

Improve: Now based on the analysis of the measured data, we can identify the improvement actions and implement the improvement actions at the college so that the daily operations of the college can be improved.
