Patellar reflex is an example of monosynaptic reflex.
When the patellar tendon is just tapped below the knee , the
tap initiate an a action potential on a specialized structure known
as muscle spindle , which is located within the quadriceps
muscle.
The action potential travel along L3 and L4 nerve root of the
spinal cord , via sensory axon or afferent nerve which chemically
communicate with a motor nerve by releasing a neurotransmitter
called glutamate.
The result of this motor nerve activity leads to contraction of
quadriceps muscle, leading to extension of lower leg that is lower
leg kick forward.
Sensory inputs from quadriceps also activate a interneuron
which releases a inhibitory neurotransmitter glycine onto motor
neuron of antagonists muscle, that is hamstring muscle causing
blocking their stimulation .
Relaxation of opposing muscle facilitates the extension of
lower leg.
Improper patellar reflex means damage to central nervous
system.

Which nerve carries the afferent (sensory) signal? Which nerve
carries the efferent (motor) signal?
how did mental distraction and muscle activity in another area
affect the patellar knee-jerk reflex? Is this what you expected to
happen? In your own words try to explain your answers.

1,Diagram and describe a simple spinal reflex. Be sure to
indicate all of the major components, and explain what they do.
Indicate how a spinal reflex could be more complex than this simple
reflex, and explain why a reflex might have to be complex. Give at
least two examples to illustrate your point (just brief
descriptions). How does a cranial reflex differ from a spinal
reflex?
2, Describe the structure of blood vessel walls. Be sure to
include all classes...
Spinal implants, knee & hip joints comprise the majority of
joint procedures. Describe & classify these joints &
discuss the considerations that must be taken into account when
designing devices for these applications.
What is the correct choice?
3) In the vertebrate spinal stretch reflex, the sensor is
the
a. alpha motor neurons.
b. extrafusal muscle fibers.
c. gamma motor neurons.
d. mechanoreceptors in the spindle
Discussion question - Some individuals criticize Sarbanes-Oxley
as simply a "knee-jerk reaction" to accounting scandals or an
opportunity for politicians to use these events to make it appear
they were "fixing" the accounting industry. Do you agree with this
statement or do you think SOX is effective and was necessary?
Provide your reasoning.
