Can we track a common pattern with clear stages during the sexual response? Compare the EPOR model with competing models. How do they differ? How are they the same? Do you think one describes the sexual response more accurately than the others?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1) The common pattern with the clear stages during sexual responses include: excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution. The different stages are discussed below--

Excitement: The blood flow in the organ increases and blood pressure increases. The muscle tonicity and strength increases. The skin becomes read with the flow of heat. The body attains an erect posture. The hairs become erect and the mammary glands and nipples of the female become tight and rigid. The blood flow to the reproductive organ increases in the female and it becomes swollen and the male reproductive organ becomes erect due to the movement and pressure of the blood inside this organ. The reproductive organs become lubricated by the release of the secretion from the prostrate gland.

Plateau: This is the next phase, when the blood pressure increases inside the vagina. This region becomes red, inflammed and swollen with increeased sensitivity. The skin becomes red with inflammation. The muscle tension increases with tonicity.

Orgasm: The blood pressure increases, with involuntary contractions and movements of the muscles. It lasts for only a few seconds. The muscle rhythm and contraction of the uterine muscles increases. The male ejaculates due to the increased pressure, force and stimulation inside the testis.

Resolution: This is the phase when the muscles relax, blood flow and pressure decreases. The mammary glands become less swollen and the voluntary and the involuntary contractions of the muscles decrease. The body gets fatigued and weak. There is feeling of emotional satisfaction after the nerve stimulation and contraction of the muscles in the body.

2) The EPOR model consists of the Excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution model of sexual excitement. The other models are DEOR and Basson models. The Kaplan three stage model is important designed by Helen Singer kaplan which explains three stages in the developmental pathway like desire, excitement and orgasm.

3) The ESOR model is compared with the other models like Kaplan, DEOR and Basson models. The female sexual function index is calculated. The Basson model has lower female sexual function index score than the DEOR model and ESOR model. The Basson model analyzes the attraction ,affection and intimacy without the need to attain highest orgasms. It analyzes the desire for sexual reproduction, the satisfaction ,intimacy, knowledge and realibility of the sexual function on a person who you know. The arousal, attraction and desire of sexual fertility should be known to the person with desire for attaining it and providing sexual satisfaction through known intimate relationships.
