What is transparent data encryption. what problem's does it resolve and What are the limits of TDE encryption?

Solutions

Expert Solution

yes,by Transparent data encryption(TDE) is also an encryption method and this will encrypt the data files and transaction log files.

it is also possible to encrypt or protect the rest data or data at rest and not possible to encrypt the live data or data in use.

this TDE is also capable for backuping the files also.

this TDE is mostly used in

=> Microsoft

=> Oracle

many companies and enterprises use these TDE for solving compliance issues such as PCI DSS which require the protection of data at rest.

  • it is also helpful in hardware security services also.
  • usually it is user-friendly
  • simple to operate and less complexity in implementations.
  • it is always hide to the users is the speciality.
  • mirroring services are possible.

this TDE has found some limitations,this include

=> it support only encryption in data at rest

=> it needs more expensive Enterprise Edition processes

=> all datas encrypted this take more time

=> performance is less compared to other encryption methods

=> live data cannot be encrypted
