The process that makes the spaghetti noodles for Delectable Delights is supposed to produce noodles with an average length of 252 mm. Allison, the Quality Control Manager, is concerned that Machine #42 is not working properly and the noodles it produces are too short. You are asked to take a random sample of 40 noodles from Machine #42 and perform a hypothesis test to determine if the noodles produced by the machine are, on average, less than 252 mm. Use a significance level of 5%.

A. Define population mean in the context of the problem and state the appropriate hypotheses.

B. State and verify the conditions for this hypothesis test for a mean.

I need help ASAP with Part A and B. Thank You.

Solutions

Expert Solution

A) Population mean, = mean length of spaghetti noodles for Delectable Delight is 252 mm

The null and alternative hypotheses

Note : The null hypothesis is the hypothesis of no difference , thus we state , alternative hypothesis is generally the research hypothesis , that is what we want to test : whether mean is less than 252 mm

B) Conditions for hypothesis test for mean

i) Sample should be collected through simple random sampling .

As the sample of 40 noodles are collected through random sampling , first condition is satisfied .

ii) The sampling distribution of sample mean should follow Normal or nearly normal .This is possible if parent population is normal or sample size is big (n>30)

As sample size is big, n= 40 , second condition is also satisfied .

Thus conditions for hypothesis test for mean is satisfied .

The factory building manager at Delectable Delights, Jason Short, is concerned that the new contractor he hired is taking too long to replace defective lights in the factory workspace. He would like to perform a hypothesis test to determine if the replacement time for the lights under the new contractor is in fact longer than the replacement time under the previous contractor, which was 3.2 days on average. He selects a random sample of 12 service calls to replace defective...

In 2009 Noodles & Company introduced spaghetti and meatballs to their menu. Before putting it on the menu, they performed taste tests to determine the best-tasting spaghetti sauce. Random samples of 69 tasters were asked to rate their satisfaction with two different sauces on a scale of 1–10 with 10 being the highest. The mean difference in ratings was d⎯⎯d¯ = -0.46731 with a standard deviation of sd = 1.65540. Use α = 0.05. (Hint: A 2-sample dependent means test...

Noodles and Company tested consumer reaction to two spaghetti sauces. Each of 70 judges rated both sauces on a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best) using several taste criteria. To correct for possible bias in tasting order, half the judges tasted Sauce A first, while the other half tasted Sauce B first. Actual results are shown below for “overall liking.” Sauce A: 8, 1, 9, 7, 6, 2, 5, 6, 6, 5, 8, 5, 7, 6, 5, 6, 8,...
