Question 9 The IVs are ethnicity (white, African American, Hispanic, Asian) and birthweight status ( <2,500 grams versus 2,500 grams); the DV is serum bilirubin levels. Please choose the statistical test that is most appropriate for this research.

Solutions

Expert Solution

For the given scenario, we are given two independent variables such as ethnicity and birth weight status.

The independent variable ethnicity has four levels such as white, African, American, Hispanic, and Asian. This variable is qualitative variable.

The independent variable birth weight has two levels such as less than 2500 grams and greater than 2500 grams. This variable is qualitative variable.

The dependent variable serum bilirubin level is a continuous numerical or quantitative variable.

We want to check the claim whether the average bilirubin level for the newborn is different regarding their ethnicity and birth weight. Also, there is a significant interaction between ethnicity and birth weight or not.

For checking this claim, we will use two way analysis of variance (Two way ANOVA) or two way F test for checking the significant differences between population means.

Most appropriate statistical test for this research is Two way ANOVA F test.
