What is intrinsic semiconductor? What is a carrier? What types of carriers does silicon have? What is free electron? What is a hole? Why can the hole conduct current?
Intrinsic semiconductor :
In intrensic semi counductors four electrons in outer most shell which are combined with other atom with covalent bond.
Intrinsic semiconductors: is a pure semicounductor material they posses pure conductivity . In intrensic semi counductor, the number of electrons in conduction band is equal to number of wholes in the valence band. Even at room temperature sum of electrons in the vanlcce band can jump to conduction band by thermal energy . the energy gap in semi conductor is very small .
Carriers:
the less abundant charge carriers are called minority carriers, In n type semicounductors they are holes are minority charge carrires.
silicon have both number of electrons and the number of holes are equal .Undoped silicon is rarely used in the electronics industry .
Free electron
electron that is not attached to an ion or atom or molecule and free to move in any band.
Hole:
a hole is the absence of an electron in a paticular place in an atom or molecule.
hole conduction current :
hole also conduct current, in reality it is the movement of all the other electrons .the hole allows this motion.
holes have positive charge, current flows in the same direction as the hole move.
