What are some settings where you might shift your dialect?
Dialect shifting is basically a process through which a person changes his/her speech style. This is being done in order to get fit in a specific context. This dialect shifting is very important because most of the people do not speak in standard versions of their native language.
They use different different dialects. It provides a specific characteristics to a group of people. It may also be helpful in identifying the social background of a person. Geographical origin can also be determined. If we are aware about a person's backgrounds then we can easily know about the traditional beliefs and cultural values of a person.
It decides the boundaries in which we can behave in a mannered way. Our surroundings may demand dialect shifting. We can not talk in a casual manner at our working place. We may use different, relaxed and a frequent dialect with people of our common native origin.
There remains a need to shift this dialect according to the situational demands. We talk with our friends in different tone. The same tone can not be used while interacting with boss.
