Describe the characteristics of sex crimes with unique investigational characteristics.
Typology: there were two categories of research that had been published on se-xual homicide. There was identification of two categories - compulsive se-xual murderers and the catathymic se-xual murders.
The compulsive type is the less common type, in which there is an organised crime scene. In this type of crime scene, there would be indication of some amount of control in the scene. There would be indication of planning while attacking the victim and there would be little evidence. The se-xual part of the offence would be taking part before the death of the victim and the pattern of offence would be an obsessive compulsive type.
This criteria is met by identification of se-xual sadism, where the offender would harm the victim and derive pleasure, they have a narcissist Personality. There may be example of severe psychopathy.
The catathymic type is the more common type where the homicide is unplanned. The offender would leave behind trails and would be exhibiting personality disorders or mood disorders. They have a different level of psychopathy as compared to the compulsive type. They have moderate psychopathy. These people may be hyperactive in their childhood and may have experienced childhood trauma.
