Native Americans are referred to as being American Indians or the indigenous Americans. Currently, there are almost 500 recognised tribes by the US and half of these recognised tribes are associated with the Indians. The indigenous groups do not include Alaska natives or the Hawaiians.
Currently, there are almost 3 million people who had been identified by the census in the year 2010. 27% people show Cherokee as their ethnicity. This is also idenfied as the Cherokee syndrome. Through history, there were many native Americans who adopted the English language and converted themselves into Christianity. More often than not, this was through forced assimilation for many people, this was as a result of obtaining white privilege. Currently, native Americans could not be distinguished visually from the white Americans.
The native Americans also practice racial exogamy, as a result of which, the proportion of indigenous blood has been constantly declining.
