Robert Cox's main ideas regarding international relations
system were influenced by Antonio Gramsci's ideas.
His international relation theory is also knows as critical
theory of international relations which goes beyond the traditional
theory of international relation where power is the main factor in
the world order.
His arguments about international relations system went beyond
the base-superstructure theory of Marxism.
He believed in creation of a vibrant civil society where there
were institutions for representing marginalised group of people,
for example, ILO ( International Labour Organisation ).
He favoured pluralism, multilateralism’s over
protectionism.
He emphasised on countering hegemony by powerful
countries.
I definitely believe in most of his views about the world
order.
It is our duty to create an equitable world order where no
small country is threatened by a relatively powerful country. In
today's world of protectionism his ideas are even more
applicable.
