EXERCISE IV - Conflict Resolution
In our society, we have always been told that compromise is a good thing. Whetten and Cameron challenge this belief by saying collaboration is the best answer. They do not ask you to believe that because they say so. Instead they suggest that compromise solutions to major problems carry the weakness of being unsustainable....the solution will not stand the test of time.....after a period of time the problem reappears. Have you experienced this type of thing with compromise? What are your thoughts about compromise and collaboration? Have you ever heard about or experienced a collaborative solution? When is it appropriate to use compromise as a strategy?
Yes, and the compromise of the strategic solution for the collaboration was something that causes more distrust and fails to gain a solution.
Collaboration and compromise can only be done if it’s coming in from the partner's end equally and affecting them equally else the collaboration is of no good use. The collaboration can only be done where the trust is high and the objectives are met with some compromise which is equally shared by both parties. The solution of the collaboration makes the business gain possible for both parties in collaboration.
I have heard of a collaborative solution of which the recent development of the COVID 19 medicines between the researches groups of the Oxford UK and Indian Serum Pharma allying the experience and knowledge for the COVID 19 medicine for the globe. This is a positive development in these times of dire needs and times of development which is the solution of the people with collaboration in these Pandemic times which needs the best of people and equipment for the objective at hand.
It is not appropriate compromise as a strategy except when its for the larger social good for the business. The compromise made in the business with such parameters made the business to use compromise as the strategy for the business for its long term. It is appropriate to take up such compromise when it’s giving the larger good and is also serving the business its long term purpose of market exposure and setups.
