The importance of succession planning for the sustained strength of an organization is well documented. However, someone stepping into a leadership role on an acting basis while someone is ill is another matter altogether. What are some of the most likely challenges (both for the leader and the organization’s day-to-day operations) when someone is in a leadership role on an “acting” basis?
It is said that when someone joins to be acting in a position, it means that the position hasn't been formally created yet and the person is temporarily occupying the position only for the sake of continuity. This action would be resulting in a no. of challenges for both leader and the organisation which are as follows:
1. Communication Problem: The first problem that would be faced both for the organisation and for the individual as well who is taking the position would be because of the communication problem. The person is not familiar with the leadership won't be able to lead and direct the people in the given manner where the could understand; on the other hand, this would heavily result in the losses for the organisation as the goals are not being communicated well.
2. Informational Problem: Another challenge would be the informational problem. Suppose any person who is not having any coding information is put in the position of a leader for the coding department, would he be able to answer all the information or coding related query the employees would have? This would certainly creatw a hinderance for the organisation as well as the individual.
3. Interpersonal Problem: At last, the individual having no information about the team who is working below him, how he would be able to make an interpersonal relation with them because you have to create a one when you have to lead the people. Thus, this would again make the organisation lack its operational efficiencies.
