What are models of psychological entitlement?
Psychological entitlement refers to general belief that one deserves more or is entitled to more than others are.
The concept of entitlement and deservingness play an important role in much of social life. They both reflect the commonly held idea that when individuals contribute to a situation, they should get something back in return.when they don't get what they feel they are entitled to or deserve they consider the situation unjust or unfair and may get upset or angry and seek redress.
In order to predict or measure psychological entitlement in person , various research studies have studied the variables which were further tested within six models of psychological entitlement.
Variables that were used to analysed psychological entitlement we're:
1.selfkindness
2.self judgement
3.common humanity
4.isolation
5.mindfulness
6.overidentification
Studies suggest that mindfulness and self kindness predicted psychological entitlement negatively. Individual with self kindness and mindfulness can deal with challenging life experiences through treating themselves with care and kindness and not allowing themselves to be swept by negative emotions. thus individuals with higher levels of self kindness and mindfulness accept rather than deny their shortcomings, while remaining gentle and understanding towards themselves.
Conversely psychological entitlement perceptions are based on unstable appraisements of reciprocity, and high levels of entitlement may lead to egocentric behavior.
Psychological entitlement can be predicted by over identification, isolation and self judgement positively. Individual who have higher levels of over identification, isolation and self judgement deny their own thoughts and emotions ,ruminate on their defects, feel.embarased from their mistakes and failures, become identified with and get carried away with negative experiences and frequently fall into psychological disorder and problems.individuals with lower self compassion cannot ameliorate their distressful feelings and vulnerable to more negative emotions such as hostility, distress or irritability.
