What are B chromosomes and what are their functions?
B chromosomes are accessory chromosome not required by an organism for its whole life. They are smaller in size and carry less amount of DNA. There are more tolerant to delations and other types of mutations.
B chromosomes control A chromosomes during their meiosis by -
1. Suppressing the multiple bearing between homologulous chromosomes in allopolyploids
2. Causes an asymmetry in the formation of chiasma
3. Causes an increase in the number of unpaired chromosome leading to infertility
4. Increases variation by increasing the frequency of crossing over and recombination
