Form factor is used to get an accurate value of RMS by just multiplying form factor with the average value of the distributed waveform.

The significance of the form factor is that -

Form factor is used in conditions where there is some distortion in the pure sinusoidal waveform, and the meter we generally use won't give correct RMS value and hence we use form factor to get the correct RMS value.
