The project scope statement is used by project managers to help define boundaries and ensure a common understanding, which will lead to a successful project. The scope statement should include a scope description, acceptance criteria, project deliverables, project exclusions and project assumptions. The scope description is a detailed description of what the project will deliver. The acceptance criteria is the measurements that will be used to determine if the project has met all requirements. The project deliverables are any product specific deliverables such as the project plan and project status report. Project exclusions identify any elements that are specifically excluded from the project. Project constraints are a list of anything that will limit the project teams options. Finally, project assumptions are assumptions made based on information already known. This section will list these assumptions and the potential impact they will have if they turn out to be false. (www.project-management-skills.com, 2016) The project scope statement should be detailed in order to provide clarity to both the project team and the stakeholders. Project managers can use the scope statement to clearly define the boundaries, keep stakeholders on the same page and provide a basis for controlling project change. All of which should help lead to a successful project. (www.project-management-skills.com, 2016)
