What is gray matter? What is white matter? In the subcortical areas, what is the of neurons which aggregate together? In the PNS, what is the name of neuros aggregate together?
You need to remember the location and function of the major components of brains-1) basal ganglia 2) thalamus 3) hypothalamus 4) hippocampus 5) brain stem includes midbrain, pons and medulla oblongata.
Grey matter-The grey matter cantains most of the neuronal cell bodies. They provide process information to the brain and with in the grey matter process signals generated in the sensory organs.
They includes regions of the brain like muscle control, sensory perception hearing speech decision making and self control
White matter-The White matter is originate in the deeper tissues of the brain (found in the subcortical part). It contains nerve fibers (axons), which are extensions of nerve cells (neurons). Nerve fibers are bounded by a type of sheath called myelin which is gives white color to white matter.
Brain
Location- Brain is located in the upper part of the bony head, which is called the skull.
Function-It controls motor function, the body's ability to balance, and its ability to interpret information sent to the brain by the eyes, ears, and other sensory organs.
Basail ganglia
Location-It is located in the upper part of the midbrain and below the thalamus
Function -firstly to control motor control, and other roles like motor learning, executive functions and behaviors, and emotions. Basal ganglia network forms the basis for several movement disorders.
Thalamus
The thalamus is a small structure within the brain located just above the brain stem between the cerebral cortex and the midbrain and has extensive nerve connections to both.
The main function of the thalamus is to relay motor and sensory signals to the cerebral cortex
Hypothalamus
Location-. Hypothalamus is located below the thalamus and is part of the limbic system.
Function- Hypothalamus is connected to the nervous system to the endocrine system via the pituitary gland .
Hippocampus
Location-The hippocampus is a small organ located within the brain's medial temporal lobe .
Function-main function is to regulates emotions and also regulate memory function mainly in long-term memory.
Midbrain
Location-Mid brain located below the cerebral cortex and above the hindbrain placing it near the center of the brain.
Function- Midbrain main functions is motor movement, particularly movements of the eye, and in auditory and visual processing.
Pons
Location-, located above the medulla oblongata and below the midbrain.
Function- The pons contains nuclei that relay signals from the forebrain to the cerebellum, along with nuclei that deal primarily with sleep, respiration, swallowing, bladder control, hearing, equilibrium, taste, eye movement, facial expressions, facial sensation, and posture.
Medulla abloganta
Location-The medulla oblongata is located in the brain stem.
Function-Its helps in regulate breathing, heart and blood vessel function, digestion, sneezing, and swallowing.
