what is a mole and what is molar mass? what are the molar masses of magnesium and atomic oxygen?
Mole:
Mole is the amount of a chemical substance that contains as many elementary entities like atoms, molecules, as there are atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12, the isotope of carbon with relative atomic mass 12 by definition.
One mole is equal to 6.022×10 23
Molar mass:
The mass per mole of a substance is called its molar mass. Since the atomic mass unit is defined as 1/12 of the mass of the 12C atom, it follows that the molar mass of a substance, measured in grams per mole, is numerically equal to its mean atomic or molecular mass measured in amu.
Mg = 24.305 g/mol
O2 = 15.9994 g/mol
