If children are promoted to play video that stimulates learning in them, then video games are beneficial for their cognitive development as:

  • It helps to learn follow guidelines and instructions.
  • It enhances their problem solving abilities as they're required to anticipate, strategize, manipulate, manage resources, and calculate during the video games. It also promote quick thinking in children.
  • Video games enhances better eye-hand coordination, promote spatial reasoning, and develop fine motor skills in children.

Video games are highly addictive and when children play video games that has violence in them, it promotes aggressive behavior. The negative effects of video games on cognitive development of children are:

  • Though it promotes development of visual-spatial region of brain, prolonged playing habits impacts the development of regions responsible for social behavior and emotions negatively,as these regions remain underdeveloped.
