What is evaporation? What is condensation? What is boiling?
What causes matter to change states? When a substance changes state, what remains
constant?
What are the four states of matter in order of distance between particles?
What are the properties of a plasma? What are the properties of a liquid? What are the properties of a solid? What are the properties of a gas?
As the pressure of a system changes, boiling points can change in what direction?
Evaporation is a process in which molecules escape slowly from the surface of a liquid. The Opposite of Evaporation is condensation - the changing of a gas(vapour) to a liquid. If we heat the liquid, average kinetic energy of the entire liquid increases and at a certain stage the energy becomes sufficient to break the molecular attraction. The molecules anywhere in the liquid can form vapour bubbles. These bubbles float to the surface of the liquid and finally come out of the liquid. This phenomenon is called boiling and the temperature at which boiling occurs called boiling point.
2)Matter changes state when energy is added or taken away. Most matter changes because of heat energy. ... When matter is heated enough, the molecules move faster and with greater energy. If enough heat is added, a solid can become liquid and a liquid can become gas.
During the phase change, when solid melts into liquid, its temperature remains constant.
3) Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma are the four states.
4) In Solids you know (fixed shape, size, volume, strongest inter-atomic force). In liquids (no as such fixed volume, take shape of container in which it contained, lesser inter-atomic force than is in solids). In gases, no fixed volume, shape and size, negligible inter-atomic forces. While the plasma is the collection of ions and electrons, it has tremendous amount of temperature. (please read more..)
5) greater the pressure, higher the boiling point. Lower the pressure lesser the boiling point.
