1-Give information about mobility of gaseous ions and deionization by diffusion

2- Explain relation between diffusion and mobility

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.

IonMobility:-– ion mobilty is defined as the drift velocity attained by ion due to application of electric field in a gas. It is also called ionic conductance.

General formula for Mobility is velocity per unit electric field.

It depends on mass ,charge and size of ions.

Deionization by diffusion:- when a gas allowed to diffuse ,the ions will recombines with each other and get discharged ,this recombination is called deinonization.

2.

Relation between diffusion and mobility is given by the following formula

D=mu*KBT

Where D is diffusion constant

mu is mobility

KB is boltzmann constan and T is absolute temperature

This equation is an early example of a fluctuation dissipation relation.
